Hidden Perspective San Lorenzo

Description

Haha, I'm pretty much copyin' a pastin' a lot of stuff from the first submission, but I did add some new information near the end.

Done for my illustration class, I also had a huge extension 'cause I'm a slow-as-fuck worker.

The goal of this assignment was to show an area/concept of the San Lorenzo area in Florence through a new perspective: ours (a 'fresh set of eyes', so to speak). One of the first things I noticed was how climbable everything was, and how fun it would be to climb said climbable things.

In this image, the subject is climbing the unfinished facade of the San Lorenzo Church.

The process for this was super time-consuming:

The lineart was done in bristol paper...board...thing, with .5 mechanical pencil and then inked with .1 pen. Then, I copied the lineart onto tracing/transfer paper with .1 ink pen.

Afterwards, on the tracing paper, I copied the lineart with .5 pencil from the back (otherwise, it would have been inverted on the final piece, which would not be good), and then transfered it onto some sweet watercolor paper.

Once that was transferred, I used a quill pen with watercolor to ink those lines, and then finally started coloring, after I erased the pencil marks.

Yeah, kinda confusing, but that's the only way I know how to describe it XD;;

Overall, this took me more than twenty hours (I think. Well, it certainly felt more than twenty hours. anyways). A LOT of time was spent trying to get the perspective somewhat decent; woulda helped if I actually climbed the damn thing, but that probably wouldn't have been a good idea. Painting this was definitely a learning experience, and helped me understand perspective and using watercolor a bit more.

So, the time spent working out the initial lineart took a super long time. Haha, since this was my first watercolor project and, being the naive person that I am, I said to myself "Ok! Now that I'm finished with the lineart, I'm done with the difficult part!"

-_-;;

Everything was done with free-hand, though I did have photo-references of the buildings.

This shouldn't be said but:

Under no circumstances are you, dear audience, allowed to change this image, use it for profit or non-profit purposes, and especially claim it as your own. If you do have any questions though regarding these matters, you are to contact me through e-mail (found on my frontpage) or private messaging through deviantArt.

Like the first submission, this is watercolor on watercolor paper, and part of my soul too (maybe like a fifth or something, I didn't really check yet)

Whoa--!
That's an epic undertaking. Would've taken me a lot more than 20 hours...
